1971 saw the addition of the all new Dodge Demon to the Dart lineup. Based on the Plymouth Duster, it was a pillared two-door fastback with a 108″ wheelbase (three inches shorter than other Darts) and was available in two trims. There is a rumour that the rear tail panel of the Dodge Demon was actually supposed to be the tail panel of the 1971 Plymouth Duster, but due to timing and manufacturing constraints it never ended up on the Duster and instead was only on the Demon…..

Banking on the resulting success of the package, Chrysler went on to release a decade-worth of low-priced, high-performance muscle cars based on the Valiant, including the Dart GT and GTS, the Swinger 340, the Demon, and the Duster. Color photography of restored and factory-original vehicles, along with archival images, are accompanied by a history for each, there are discussions of design and production, driving impressions, accessories and options, popular performance upgrades, and the cars' successful histories at the drag strip. Steve Statham is the author of the MBI muscle car books Camaro and Pontiac GTO: The Great One.

The car was refined over the years, becoming a true muscle car, and a rather handsome one at that, but it wasn’t until the advent of the E-body pony cars from 1970-1974—Barracudas, the Dodge Challenger, and Plymouth ‘Cuda—that Chrysler became a true player in the pony-car market. This book tells the story of Chrysler’s pony car series, from the advent of the original Barracuda in 1964 to the final days of the smog-motored Challengers and ‘Cudas of the mid-1970s, focusing on the series’ heyday in the early 1970s.

They had one primary job: get the driver from Point A to Point B as fast as law, and the driver?s driving ability, would allow. They started off in the early 1960s as mid-size sedans and coupes stuffed with oversized engines - Bel Airs, Catalinas, and Tempests - and it wasn?t long before crazy hi-po machines came in all shapes in sizes. Mustangs, Camaros, Chargers, Chevelles, 4-4-2s, Gran Sports ? they all had one thing in common: big engines, and big performance. In Nothin? But Muscle, you'll find 199 of the greatest American performance cars ever built. From the earliest 1964 GTO, to the Shelby-built muscle/racers of the late-?60s, to the ferocious Buicks of the 1980s and 500-plus-hp Viper and Corvette rocketships of today. Nothin? But Muscle brings you the most memorable and beloved pavement eaters ever seen on American soil.
